Users free to quit WhatsApp if they don't like privacy policy: Facebook

NEW DELHI: Pending possible scrutiny of WhatsApp's new privacy policy on the touchstone of right to privacyFacebook, which owns the popular messaging platform, told the Supreme Court that those feeling aggrieved could quit WhatsApp.

WhatsApp counsel Kapil Sibal assured the court that messages and voice calls over the platform were end-to-end encrypted which ensured complete privacy. However, he said since the contract between a user and WhatsApp was completely in the private domain, the policy could not be tested constitutionally by the SC and the petition filed by students Karmanya Singh Sareen and Shreya Sethi was not maintainable.

If Sibal mixed persuasion with legal points before a bench comprising Justices Dipak Misra, A K Sikri, Amitava Roy, A M Khanwilkar and M M Shantanagoudar, Facebook counsel K K Venugopal was more blunt. He said, "Those who find the new privacy policy irksome or violative of their fundamental rights, can quit. We've given full freedom to users to withdraw from Facebook and WhatsApp."
The bench was quick with a rejoinder that this would amount to forcing a citizen to make a negative choice. Appearing for the petitioners, Harish Salve said under the new policy, users were unwittingly made to give consent to both WhatsApp and Facebook and the latter could snoop on messages privately circulated between users of WhatsApp.

"They claim that this is being done to improve services to be given in future to users. Whether the snooping is done electronically or manually, the right to privacy of users gets breached. The government is duty bound to protect the fundamental right of every citizen. If it is failing, then the SC can surely issue appropriate directions," Salve said
Appearing for the Centre, additional solicitor general Tushar Mehta said the government was committed to protect the freedom and fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution and informed the court that a regulatory regime for internet based messaging and voice call platforms would soon be put in place. The bench fixed May 15 for preliminary hearing.

Five reasons to watch SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Conclusion, starring Prabhas and Rana Daggubati

Baahubali: The Conclusion is an emotional roller-coaster with vigorous and brisk war scenes. The craze, the hype and the laurels before the release do not overshadow the magic of the movie, which comes out victorious in the end. Much like its protagonist – Baahubali.
Here are some narratives that would certainly jump out for you while watching (Major Spoiler alerts)
The camaraderie between Baahubali and Kattappa:
Brace yourself for a rollicking ride with the Kattappa-Baahubali duo. Baahubali’s humour at the expense of Kattappa’s old age will make light of the serious impending plot twists. You will be tickled to see Kattappa as Baahu’s wingman.
The ego battle between mother and son:
Remember the dialogue of Mata Sivagami “Mera Bacchan Hi Hai Sashan (My words are the rule)” in the first part? Reiterations of that actually drive the plot and become the cause of conflict between mother and son. You have to check how that simple line takes a life of its own.
Treachery does the trick:
At the end of the first part, it was all settled that Baahubali will be the next king, and the job was cut out for him. He had the support of people and he proved himself a worthy heir to the Mahishmati kingdom. But wait for the Bijjala Dev and his diabolical plans to usurp the kingdom! He will come off as the mixture of Sakuni and Dhritarashtra from Mahabharat. Check how the treachery of Bijjala and Bhallala wrap up the good fortunes of Sivagami, Baahubali, Kattappa, and the kingdom.
The contest between brawns and brains is icing on the cake:
The muscles for which Prabhas and Rana trained hard for years will shoulder to shoulder in an ultimate fight, and the contest will be a real treat to watch.
VFX is the thread that binds the movie together:
If Baahubali aka Prabhas sweeps you off your feet with his charm, if Bhallala Deva aka Rana fills you with fury, VFX will bind all distinct elements to serve you a delectable watch. However, some VFX scenes seemed patchy and did not match to the standards set by the sequel.

As far as the weekend is concerned, the film across the languages within India would do around the business of net amount of Rs 230 + crores.”

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 concept will have dual front cameras

Samsung reportedly has already started working on the new Galaxy Note 8 with some details about the upcoming phone have already surfaced, hinting towards a dual-camera setup on the back. Now, DBS Designing has shared a video featuring a concept of Samsung’s upcoming flagship tablet.
The Galaxy Note 8 has to be such that it can help Samsung restore consumer trust in the Galaxy Note line, following last year's disaster. Some information about the new phone has already surfaced and the new concept video gives us an idea about the new device’s potential.
The phone portrayed in the video is fictional, but some details are based on previous rumors, like the vertical dual-camera setup on the back. The device also appears to have almost unnoticeable bezels on the side and an Infinity Display with Samsung logo at the bottom.
According to a report from AppleInsider, noted Apple Analyst Ming Chi Kuo states Samsung's camera pack will be "better" than the dual-camera setup found on the iPhone 7 Plus.
The front panel is similar with the Galaxy S8, but as a fact that the Note 8 will be larger than the S8+, as the display is rumoured to have a size of 6.4 inches and QHD+ resolution. Interestingly, the designer placed the power button and volume down keys on the left side of the device and featured a metal and glass design.
The fingerprint scanner is featured on the back of the Galaxy Note 8 similar to the Galaxy S8, but in a much more comfortable position that on the Galaxy S8. However we hope Samsung will find a solution until the Note 8 is out and maybe place the sensor underneath the display.
The concept video also comes with specs about the device, which includes 6GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage, USB Type-C port and a 4,000mAh battery. The dual-camera setup on the back is a 16MP setup presumably, while the phone appears to come with an iris scanner in the front. A dual-camera setup is visible in the front, with 13MP sensors.
The Galaxy Note 8 could be announced in August, although the IFA chief publicly expressed his desire for the device to make its debut during the event in Berlin. It will be interesting to see if this concept of the Note 8 actually portrays the look of the final retail version.

How good is the Samsung Galaxy S8 Camera?

Following the debacle of Galaxy Note 7, Samsung launched its flagship smartphones dubbed Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ with much fanfare. The Galaxy S8 competes with other flagships such as LG G6, Apple iPhone 7 Plus, OnePlus 3T, Huawei P10 and more, with more emphasis on the Camera department. In this post, we’ll be examining samples taken by the S8 and these phones to see which one will take the title of best camera-phone.
Before moving on, let us give the camera specifications of the Galaxy S8. The rear is taken care of 12MP Dual Pixel camera with LED Flash, f/1.7 aperture, 1/2.55″ sensor size, OIS, and 1.4µm pixel size. The front side has an 8MP auto focus front-facing camera with f/1.7 aperture, 1/3.6″ sensor size, 1.22µm pixel size, 80-degree wide-angle lens.
In this camera test, we took pictures (Click the image for full resolution samples)  in maximum quality as per the mobile’s specifications and shot the video in Full HD resolution.

Apple iPhone 8: Specs, design, availability, concept video and more

Well, Samsung has already taken the wraps off its 2017 flagship smartphones the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. However, there is much anticipation and expectation from the next leading smartphone manufacturer Apple.
We have already been seeing and hearing news about the upcoming Apple iPhones. And while the launch is still a long way to go there seems to be new rumors or leaks almost every day about the upcoming phones. That being said, yet again new rumors have just surfaced online and they suggest some interesting details about the upcoming Apple devices.
Images of dummy model of alleged iPhone 8 surface online
The first is a new iPhone 8 concept video that has been uploaded on YouTube and it highlights the design changes that be brought on to the device.
Secondly, alleged GeekBench scores have also been leaked and another report talks about the availability of the device. Lastly, a new report suggests that Apple could introduce two variants of the iPhone 8.
Let's look at the details of the rumors and leaks in depth.
Concept Video
The concept video has been created and uploaded by Thiago M Duarte and Ran Avni, who are the designers of the concept iPhone. Coming to the video, it shows the new iPhone design from all angles.
Basically, you can see the edge-to-edge display, the OLED panel colors, the function bar at the bottom, power button as well as volume rockers, the fingerprint scanner which seems to be embedded underneath the display, dual speakers at the bottom edge, and horizontal dual rear cameras with LED flash.
The back doesn't seem to have the glass layering on top as suggested previously by some of the reports. There are two variants shown White and a Black one.
A Weibo user has claimed that iPhone 8 has just visited the GeekBench testing site. The user has spotted the alleged upcoming iPhone and has also provided the image of test results. While we are assuming it to be iPhone 8, its scores seem to be impressive. As such, the iPhone has got a single core score of 4,537 and a multi-core score of 8,975. If these are true then the iPhone could deliver the best processing performance in the market.
iPhone 8 may come with a rear-facing fingerprint scanner
Additionally, the benchmark listing also reveals some interesting features of the iPhone. Consider that it is iPhone 8 it looks like the handset will come with a 1242x2800 screen resolution, iOS 11, and a 2.74GHz A11 quad-core CPU.
Availability Details
A report from Nikkei notes that Apple could likely launch the new iPhone only after late October or beginning of November. Well, this might be due to various technical difficulties as we have reported earlier also. The report also points out that the delay may be due to the supply issues regarding OLED panels.
Two Variants
Well, this is quite an interesting topic. Earlier rumors have suggested that there might be at least three new iPhones, two iPhone 7s and one iPhone 8 or iPhone Edition models. However now a report from MicGadget states that Apple will release iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus only.
Apple to renovate its iPhone design on 10th anniversary
If this is the case then we might not see iPhone 7s during the launch. Thus Apple must be concentrating on releasing the two iPhone 8 models with new design and technology.
In any case, as there are all rumors we urge the readers to take this piece of information with a pinch of salt.

Galaxy S8 hits record sales.

Well, it very much appears that Samsung is rising like the phoenix from of the ashes of the Note 7. (Did you see what I did there?)
The Note 7 disaster now seems to be far from customers minds, with virtually no impact on customer confidence with the new Samsung products.
Samsung says that pre-orders for the S8 and S8+ were..
..the best (we have) ever seen. Pre-sales for the two devices were up 30 percent compared to the Galaxy S7 pre-orders from 2016. The S7 was the previous best launch we've had.
As yet Samsung isn't giving away any numbers, and we will have to wait until July when Samsung reports quarterly financials to see how well the sales have done for the company as a whole.
The S8 doesn't come bug free through, (what new devices does these days). Some customers are reporting a red tint to the screen, which Samsung have said isn't a hardware fault and the solution will be coming by way of a software update later this week.
Are you an S8 owner, have you got the red tint to your screen ? Let us know in the comments..

No end to data wars: Reliance Jio free offers to continue for 12-18 months

The free schemes and recharge options that Reliance Jio is offering to its customers is likely to continue for the next 12-18 months, which means other telecom services providers like Airtel, Vodafone and BSNL will have to step up efforts to counter Jio's strategy.
Jio's tactic would lead to pressure on the average revenue per user (ARPU) of incumbent operators, US bank Morgan Stanley said in a report. It added that ARPU for Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone India has been effectively capped at about Rs 300 due to Jio’s current offers, a report published in The Economic Times said.
Jio prepaid plans start from as low as Rs 19, and go up to Rs. 9,999, while postpaid plans are available at Rs. 309, Rs. 509, and Rs. 999 denomination. Jio launched its 4G service commercially on September 5, 2016 for free and crossed 50 million subscribers in just 83 days, and 100 million in 170 days, adding at an average rate of 6 lakh subscribers per day.
The company said that in terms of data usage it "has become the largest network globally" and plans to add one lakh mobile sites in coming months to double the network size.
The Morgan Stanley report mentioned that Jio, which started services on September 5, has netted 6 per cent of the country’s wireless subscribers and aims to get at least 15 per cent.
Reliance Jio extended the free usage period for Jio services to its existing and new customers till March 31, 2017. Jio reached the 100 million user mark in the first 170 days, adding consumers at an average of 600,000 a day.
Meanwhile, Reliance Jio Infocomm on Monday posted a net loss of Rs 22.50 crore for the six months ended March 31, 2017, as the company provided free voice and data services since its launch on September 5, 2016. The loss pertained to not just free voice and data services unleashed by its brand reliance Jio, but also on account of employee cost, finance cost, depreciation and other expenses.
Reliance Jio and its recharge offers
Reliance Jio is currently offering three recharge offers to its prime users.
Rs 149 plan: The subscriber gets 2 GB high-speed 4G data for 28 days. In addition, there are free voice calls, Jio apps and 300 sms bundled with the offer.
Rs 309 offer: The subscriber gets 1 GB high-speed 4G data per day for 28 days. In addition, there are free voice calls, sms and Jio apps bundled with the offer.
Rs 509 offer: The subscriber gets 2 GB high-speed 4G data per day complimentary for 28 days. In addition, there are free voice calls, sms and Jio apps bundled with the offer.
For non-Prime members, the telecom operator is offering the above-mentioned plans at Rs 408 and Rs 608 (Jio Prime membership fee and regular recharge price).
The above-mentioned plans are not available for customers already registered for Jio Summer Surprise offer.
What are others offering?
Airtel
Postpaid
Airtel is offering up to 30 GB of additional free data for the next three months. The offer can be availed using 'My Airtel' app by April 30. The offer is valid for users who joined Airtel network before 28 February.
Prepaid
Rs 399 plan: Under this pack, users will get 1 GB data per day only if they have a 4G smartphone and SIM card. The free calls incentive comes with a 3,000 minutes cap for a 70-day period. When the minutes gets exhausted, users will be charged Rs 0.10 a minute. For Airtel-Airtel calls, the limit is 300 minutes per day, but 1,200 minutes is the maximum consumption per week.
Rs 345 plan: From 1 GB data per day, Airtel is now offering 2 GB data for the same amount. Similar to the Rs 399 plan, users get the same free calls benefit with a cap. Where earlier, users were restricted to 500 megabyte (MB) from 12am-6pm and the other 500 MB available for rest of the day, the offer now holds no such limitation.
Rs 244 plan: For 4G smartphone and 4G SIM card users, one can get 1 GB date per day for 70 days under fair usage policy.  Although, the offer claims to provide unlimited free STD and local calls, uers get 1,200 min.

Google to launch new products with Indian orientation

Mountain View, California: According to the findings of Google, over the next 5 years, 9 out of 10 new internet users in India are likely to be Indian language users. Google has announced that Google Translate will use the company’s new Neural Machine Translation technology to translate between English and nine other widely used Indian languages — Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Punjabi, Malayalam and Kannada. Neural translation is a great improvement over the old phrase-based system, translating full sentences at a time, instead of pieces of a sentence.
Indian language internet users have grown from 42 million in 2011 to 234 million in 2016 even higher than English internet users, points out a study by KPMG and Google in India. The last couple of years have been extremely crucial for India as far as internet connectivity is concerned, there have been many reasons for the growth of Indian language internet users, including growth in overall internet penetration across the country especially with Reliance Jio entering the industry, the country has also seen a huge addition in the smartphone users as they are becoming more affordable and government’s push towards Digital India has enabled more of the new internet users getting online.
Google has been working on Indian languages for some time particularly Hindi, which is also the official Indian language. The study predicts that by 2021, the number of Hindi internet users alone in India will be more than English users. Google has also announced the extension of Neural Machine Translation to Chrome browser’s built-in Auto-Translate functionality, making full-page translations more accurate and easier to read. This will enable Indian language speakers to consume all of the web’s content in nine Indian languages with higher quality translations of everything from song lyrics to news articles to cricket discussions. The new translation capability will also be available to users on Google search and Maps. All the reviews of restaurants or cafes or hotels will appear in the language selected by the users on their device, in addition to the original language of the review.
While more and more users are coming online in India, there are still many challenges for the Indian language users, the study points out that high cost of internet and limited internet access are the primary reason why over 60% of the users drop out of internet, limited language support, difficulty in using English keyboards too are key challenges for Indian language users.

One Simple Way to Check Your Health in One Minute

We all know how important it is to monitor our health condition, yet few of us like going to doctors.
Bright Side found a simple way to perform a health checkup without leaving your home.
Take a common spoon, and scrape it over the entire surface of the tongue, abundantly wetting it with saliva.
Put the spoon into a transparent plastic bag, and place it under a bright light: the sun or a desk lamp.
Wait 1 minute, and check the spoon.
A clean spoon with no stains or unpleasant odors means you have no problems with the health of your internal organs.
If there’s an odor:
Putrefactive, strong — problems with the lungs or stomach;
Sweet — it may be diabetes;
Ammonia — problems with the kidneys.
If there are stains:
White or yellow with a thick coating — thyroid gland dysfunction;
Purple — bronchitis, poor blood circulation, high cholesterol level;
White — respiratory infection;
Orange — kidney disease.
Remember that this method is for informational purposes only and doesn’t replace a doctor’s consultation.
